Isaiah Pead for NYT Sports
Isaiah Pead grew up as a successful athlete in Columbus, Ohio before going on to play football for the Cincinnati Bearcats. In 2012, he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, moving on to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. In 2016, Pead was involved in a single-car collision without his seatbelt on, where both he and the car were thrown nearly 100 feet down an embankment after striking a guardrail. Pead lost his left leg in the accident and after recovering, began to train for the paralympics. Due to a number of circumstances, Pead did not qualify.
