Coal Mine Closing for The New York Times  

Mepco's 4West coal mine was scheduled to cease operations in early March 2018, leaving a small crew to disassemble the facility and officially close in June of 2018. 

370 employees were laid off from the thermal-coal mine, which was purchased by Mepco in 2005. 

A nearly-nine-mile long conveyor belt shipped coal directly to the Longview power plant, but economical issues with 4West have actually made it cheaper for Longview to buy coal from other mines. 

At 68% of the population, Greene County voted overwhelmingly for President Trump, largely based on his coal rhetoric.
